Hi, I’m Perimenopausal and I am on HRT 1mg pills. Recently changed to those from the patches, on Tuesday of this week.
I have been noticing for quite some time now that my taste buds have changed quite a bit in the last few months. I actually have cravings now for certain foods, just like when I was pregnant, which was 20 years ago.
The cravings are for savoury foods and pineapple chunks! I haven’t cared much about pineapple in years and all of a sudden, I can’t get enough of it. The pineapple is a new thing even though other changes have been months long.
Along with the cravings, I have some food I can no longer stand or care for.
Not only do certain foods taste funny sometimes, but they can smell just absolutely awful to me, especially chicken, parmesan cheese, and sometimes pasta sauce. Cooking for my family is a real challenge sometimes because of it.
I made a tray of roasted chicken today, took one bite and lost my appetite. I made stewed beef and I couldn’t finish it either. Everything except for white fish is just suddenly tasting so gross to me :(
I can barely drink wine or my favorite indulgence, champagne, without feeling like throwing it all up anymore. It's HORRIBLE!
I'm not loving coffee, either. But I drink two cups so I can sort of stay alertWhen wine tastes funny to me, I try to find a food to eat first that lessens the weird taste, like pretzels or chips, but that doesn't always work. SO frustrating!
Can someone who knows what exactly is going on, explain WHY this is part of the change?
