Prevent Thanksgiving Weight Gain With This Workout!

Thanksgiving is around the corner!

In fact tomorrow, you will probably be celebrating Thanksgiving with your family and friends —

— and by celebrating I mean filling plate after plate of the smorgasbord of food that’s prepared, like that carved turkey, gravy, pies and cranberry sauces.

To prepare yourself (and your waistline) for the upcoming feast…

Why not take some time today to amp up your metabolism with some cardio?

Why Cardio is Great for Burning Fat!

Cardio burns calories, including the fat stored around the body!

Weight and fat loss happens when you create a calorie deficit. So if you burn more calories than you consume, your body will start burning the extra fat stored.

Now, if you do the workout we’ve prepared today, before Thanksgiving dinner, you will have worked off a significant portion of the dinner...

Plus your body will use the food for muscle recovery!

Do another repetition of the exercise the day after to burn off even more and we assure you, you will be feeling great (and less guilty about asking for seconds).

The Workout

Complete this exercise circuit in order 3 times for a quick cardio workout in under 10 minutes

The cardio will torch calories and pump up your heart rate & metabolism.

If 10 minutes is too short of a time to fully complete the circuit, feel free to extend the time to 15 to 20 minutes.

Exercise #1: Jump Squats (30 seconds)

  • Stand with feet just outside of the hips, slightly pointing outwards.

  • Lower your hips and sit back as if you are sitting down in a chair. Keep your chest upright and shoulders down; all your weight should be in your heels.

  • Once at your lowest point, jump as high as you can, pushing the ground away through your heels and sending your arms behind you.

  • As you come back down, immediately bend the knees and lower into the next squat.

  • Do as many as you can in 30 seconds without losing your form. If you feel your form slipping, slow down.

Exercise #2: Sumo Squat (30 seconds)

  • To begin, place your feet wider than your hips with your toes pointed outward.

  • With or without a dumbbell, squat down as low as you can, keeping your back as straight as possible.

  • Slowly return upright. That’s 1 rep.

  • Repeat for 30 seconds without losing your form. If you feel your form slipping, slow down.

Exercise #3: Plank (30 seconds)

  • Drop down into a plank position: prop yourself with your elbows, hands spread shoulder width, legs extended long behind you with weight in the balls of your feet.

  • Push your heels away from you and pull your abs in tight towards your spine.

  • Focus on slowing down your breath and prepare for the next move.

Tip: If the plank is too straining, try a push up position instead!

Exercise #4: Lunges (30 seconds)

  • Stand up straight with your feet as wide as your hips.

  • Step forward with your right foot, bending at the knee to form a 90-degree angle.

  • Your left knee, when bent, should also be at a 90-degree angle.

  • After holding the lunge for a few seconds, press down through the heel of the right foot and squeeze the right buttock to return to standing.

  • Repeat all steps on the left leg.

Optional: Grab a set of weights to elevate the heart rate and increase intensity.

Exercise #5: High Knees (30 seconds)

  • Stand tall with your feet hips distance apart.

  • Start jogging on the spot while bringing your knees as high as you can.

  • Keep your arms at a 90-degree angle, with the option to hold weights for an added challenge.

  • Run as fast as you can for 30 seconds.

Exercise #6: Plank (30 seconds)

  • Drop down into a plank position: prop yourself with your elbows, hands spread shoulder width, legs extended long behind you with weight in the balls of your feet.

  • Push your heels away from you and pull your abs in tight towards your spine.

  • Focus on slowing down your breath and prepare for the next circuit.

Tip: If the plank is too straining, try a push up position instead!
