One Year Into Menopause

“I had a hysterectomy at age 30 last year. It was the best of times…and then kinda became the worst of times.

Well, I’m afraid if I go into detail I might bore the heck out of you gals, so I’ll break it into highlights to make it easier for you to see my milestones so far:

• Completely got rid of my debilitating endometriosis. Goodbye forever!
• Somehow woke up the dormant rheumatoid arthritis I had inside of me and I spiraled into new depths of chronic pain despair.
• Not too pretty, but my mental health plummeted to terrifying new lows that at times required intervention and professional help.
• I left my fiancé. Just couldn’t put up with his BS anymore. Good riddance because he was INSUFFERABLE.
• Gained 40lbs! I’m collecting them all.

Okay that was all the major bad stuff. I’m a very determined, capable, glass half full kinda person, so to go through that stuff was new and scary for me. I’m still managing it. On to the good things:

• I left my job and my entire field actually. I was getting burnt out and needed a change of scenery desperately. I ended up getting my dream job and I pinch myself every day I go to work.
• I reconciled with my fiancé. We’re going to therapy. I’m more forthcoming with my feelings and problems. I’m also quicker to admit when I’m wrong and recognize his efforts. (Even though he stuffed all my shoes upstairs in a closet under the pretense of cleaning). Menopausal rage still exists 😂

• I moved out from a high cost of living place with a selfish culture, to a low cost of living place located near my family, filled with lots of beautiful nature. I’m a more peaceful person here.
• I bought a stupid expensive treadmill. None of my old tried and true weight loss methods work anymore. I used to be a powerlifting athlete, and now I’m a fat dog mom — and that’s okay!
• I spend a lot of money on skin/hair care products and it makes a huge difference. Moisturizers, hair masks, hand creams, lotions, I’ve got them all! Self care is great and so far I’ve noticed a huge difference and I feel happy.

There are other little things now and then, but that’s life isn’t it? Menopause was and still is rocking my world in all the wrong ways. My coping mechanisms seem to be working though.
