Unlocking Wellness: How FSA, HSA, and HRA Funds Can Support Your Menopause Journey

On March 27, 2020, the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act was signed into law, mandating updates on the use of

  • Health Savings Accounts (HSAs),
  • Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs),
  • Health Reimbursement Accounts (HRAs)

repealing the Affordable Care Act (ACA) requirement that over-the-counter drugs and medicines had to be prescribed to be reimbursable through FSAs, HRAs, and HSAs.

Did you know that the supplements you’re already purchasing today may be fully reimbursed by your FSA, HSA, or HRA? If your healthcare provider deems your supplements as eligible, a written confirmation via a prescription may be sufficient for reimbursement.

It is our understanding that Menopause treatment and medical services are eligible for reimbursement with FSA, HSA, or HRA. Menopause treatment and medical services reimbursement are not eligible with a limited-purpose flexible spending account (LPFSA) or a dependent care flexible spending account (DCFSA).

Menopause brings about a range of physical and emotional changes, from hot flashes to mood swings, making it crucial to find effective solutions tailored to your needs. One avenue often overlooked is utilizing FSA, HSA, or HRA to fund your journey toward better menopausal health.

Here's how it works:

Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA):
  • FSA funds allow you to set aside pre-tax dollars for eligible medical expenses.
  • Menopause supplements that address symptoms such as mood swings, sleep disturbances, and bone health may qualify for FSA reimbursement.
    Health Savings Accounts (HSA):
    • HSA funds are tax-deductible, providing an opportunity to save money specifically for medical expenses.
    • Menopause supplements that contribute to your overall health and wellness may be eligible for HSA reimbursement.
      Health Reimbursement Arrangements (HRA):
      • HRAs are employer-funded accounts designed to cover certain medical expenses.
      • Speak with your employer or HR department to confirm whether menopause supplements fall under the eligible expenses covered by your HRA.

It's important to note that doctors may prescribe particular health supplements to address specific medical conditions. While the use of supplements for general health purposes is not eligible for HSA reimbursement, if your healthcare provider advises the use of supplements or a specific supplement regimen to manage or prevent a particular health condition, these expenses would qualify as eligible.

Always consult with your healthcare professional and your FSA/HRA/HSA administrator to determine the appropriateness of using funds for recommended supplements tailored to your specific health needs. Eligible healthcare professionals include but are not limited to:

      • Medical doctors
      • Physicians
      • Chiropractors
      • Naturopathic healers
      • Holistic healers

By leveraging your FSA, HSA, or HRA funds, you can make proactive choices for your health and well-being. Explore our range of menopause supplements and take control of your journey toward better health today.
