5 Calorie-Burning Exercises To Do While Netflixing

Hey hotcakes, we hope you’re having a blast of a day!

It’s me, Madison Young, back again this week for another one of our Workout Wednesdays!

Today, we’re going to introduce you to 5 simple yet effective exercises you can do — without missing a second of your favorite shows!

All menopausal women out there face this internal conflict…

On one end, we all desire to get back into shape.

On the other hand, we just want to be a couch potato and not lift a finger.

Well, we believe you can achieve a balance of both, by engaging in simple but effective exercises you can do while watching your favorite shows!

These exercises are made for the days where there isn’t time to go to the gym...

Or the nights when a new episode of your favorite TV show is airing...

Having the option of not going to the gym and still getting a workout in is really ideal!

Many of the exercises we’re showing today are really simple, and can be done effectively during commercial breaks — so you won’t have to miss a single thing while your favorite show is on.

Total win-win!

Here are 5 simple exercise moves you can do while watching TV:

Exercise #1: Lunges

Like squats (which will get to, as well), lunges are amazing for toning and working out the major muscles in the legs and butts.

  • Start by standing up tall.
  • Step forward with one foot until your leg reaches a 90-degree angle. Your rear knee should remain parallel to the ground and your front knee shouldn’t go beyond your toes.
  • Lift your front lunging leg to return to the starting position.
  • Switch between legs until you’ve totaled 10 to 12 reps per leg.

Exercise #2: Jumping Jacks

Try doing as many as jumping jacks during each commercial break and you’ll be amping up your heart rate while burning some serious calories

  • Stand upright with your legs together, arms at your sides.
  • Bend your knees slightly, and jump into the air.
  • As you jump, spread your legs to be about shoulder-width apart. Stretch your arms out and over your head.
  • Jump back to the starting position.
  • Repeat.

Exercise #3: Sit Ups

Sit ups promote good posture by working your lower back and gluteal muscles. We recommend doing 15 reps twice during your favorite show’s commercial breaks, and to remember to reach your head up toward the ceiling.

  • Lie on your back with bent knees and your feet anchored.
  • Tuck your chin into your chest to lengthen the back of your neck.
  • Interlace your fingers at the base of your skull, cross your arms with your hands on opposite shoulders, or place your palms down alongside your body.
  • Exhale as you lift your upper body up toward your thighs.
  • Inhale as you slowly lower yourself back down to the floor.

Exercise #4: Plank

Planks look simple, but a lot of work is being done for your body when you’re doing them. Planking strengthens muscles in your core, as well as your shoulders, arms, and glutes.

  • Assume a push-up position but bend your arms at your elbows so your weight rests on your forearms.
  • Tighten your abs, clench your glutes and keep your body straight from head to heels.
  • Hold for 30 seconds, then release.
  • Repeat once more.

Exercise #5: Squats

Squats are not only good for shaping your glutes, they help burn some serious calories as well.

  • Stand in an upright position, feet slightly wider than shoulder-width apart and toes slightly pointed out.
  • Bend your knees and push your hips and butt back as if you’re going to sit in a chair. Keep your chin tucked and neck neutral.
  • Drop down until your thighs are parallel to the ground, keeping your weight in your heels and knees bowed slightly outward.
  • Straighten your legs and return to an upright position.
  • Complete 15 reps.

Do as many repetitions as you can handle!

As long as you keep your heart rate up, you’ll be able to burn so many calories while finishing your favorite shows.

It’s a win-win situation — you don’t miss out on your favorite shows by going to the gym, and you burn a ton of calories.

Enjoy a full body workout by mixing and matching the exercises every time a different show comes on!

To ensure you get a proper workout, do aim to complete all 5 exercises.

Here’s Madison signing off, see you next Wednesday for another round of workout!
